and continues to find new resources and potential in

Kutch is a semi
arid district with no perennial rivers and acutely erratic
and scanty rainfall making it prone to drought and famine.
These reasons make the area unsuitable for development
of agriculture and industry resulting in mass migration
out of the area and tremendous poverty and backwardness
.
Ashapura Foundation
was set up by Mr. N. R. Shah in 1992
to alleviate some of these problems.
