Ashapura’s
diversification into bauxite in the late 90’s
was a masterstroke as it has rapidly moved to the position
of a global player and is moving from strength to strength
with its calcined bauxite and alumina refinery project
(in the implementation stage).Ashapura is among the
largest private bauxite mining companies in India .
It owns over 102,500 acres of land in Jamnagar (Gujarat)
and Western Ghats (Maharashtra) and 2200 acres of mining
land under exclusive control on long term basis. Ashapura
exports approximately 4 million tonnes to over 10 countries
across the world.
Bauxite
is a naturally occurring sedimentary rock produced by
insitu chemical weathering and composed primarily of
one or more aluminium hydroxide minerals plus various
mixtures of silica , iron oxide , titanium and other
elements. About 85% of all bauxite mined worldwide is
used to produce alumina for refining into aluminium
metal. On an average 4-5 tonnes of bauxite are needed
to produce two tonnes of alumina from which only one
tonne of aluminium can be produced. Aluminium is possibly
the most versatile product with applications in almost
every industry and since bauxite is the primary source
for aluminium it will always be in great demand. 15%
of bauxite goes into refractory, chemical , cement ,abrasives
and other applications.

of Ashapura Bauxite |

|
 |
Ashapura
mines gibbsitic variety of bauxite preferred to
the other two varieties ( bohmite and diaspore)
due to its low digestion temperature (145°-150°C)
which makes it more economical to process. Gibbsitic
bauxite is in great demand even in refineries
that have access to the other varieties of bauxite
because the cost of transporting gibbsitic bauxite
is still lower than the increment fuel and power
cost for digesting other bauxites. |
 |
India
has vast reserves of bauxite sufficient to cater
to the market demand for hundreds of years. |
 |
Ashapura’s
mines are in close proximity to all weather ports
and this is further complemented by its own fleet
of ships and impeccable logistics. |
 |
The
cost of labour is almost half in comparison with
global players and this is passed on to customers. |
 |
Our
R&D Centre and Q & A labs conduct Chemico-Mineralogical
and metallurgical evaluation ofthe bauxite to
ensure batch to batch consistency and meet stringent
specifications of customers. |
 |
Access
to the best technologies to produce value added
bauxite products like calcined bauxite and alumina. |
| |
|
The
location of our mines is within a radius of 5-120 kms
from the port area which gives competitive edge for
infrastructural networking. The Ports being used are
Bedi Port, Dighi and Sakhri.

Ashapura’s
customer list is testimony of its quality and
service |
Ashapura’s
client list includes global alumina refineries and companies
that tend to be very particular about the long-term
reliability of their suppliers.
The
processing of its bauxites at a number of alumina refineries
of the World [in particular at Zaporozhye Aluminium
Smelter (Ukraine) and other CIS alumina refineries]
has proven that these can be processed at a low-temperature
autoclave digestion (155ºC). They can be used also
for sweetening stage and for non-autoclave digestion
in agitators (105ºC )Having established its credibility,
Ashapura is poised for rapid and sustained growth in
global markets.
Bauxite
