The
mineral was named after Attapulgite, Ga, the source
of first sample studied in 1935, by De Lapparent. It
is one of the most important Gel forming clays and is
highly sorptive in its natural forms.Ashapura has sizeable
deposits of Attapulgite in Bhavnagar district, Gujarat.
Total proven reserves of Attapulgite are estimated to
be in the region of around 8000,000 tonnes. The deposits
consist of needle-shaped bundles of Attapulgite mixed
with dolomite. The company has established a plant in
Bhavnagar city, which incorporates a number of extruders
and tow hammer mills and a productioncapacity of up
to 60,000 tonnes per annum.
| Attapulgite
has a wide variety of industrial applications: |
Colloidal
applications, Foundry Coatings , Adhesives, sealants
and putting, Oil well drilling mud, Thickening and gelling
liquids, binding, filling, sorptive uses ecolorization,
paper reclaiming, conditioning, pesticides carriers,
filter aid, pharmaceutical uses, cleansing products,
catalytic applications and other uses.
Attapulgite
is primarily used for pet litter, oil well drilling
applications, as also for liquid fertilizers and floor
absorbents. Currently, Ashapura is involved in the production
of Attapulgite granules for use in domestic and industrial
absorbents.
The
colloidal grades are thickening, gelling, stabilising
and thixotropic agents with applications from drilling
fluids to paints to pharmaceuticals. Sorptive grades
are used for decolourising, as petlitters, herbicide
carriers, floor absorbents and refining aids.
Ashapura
has both natural attapulgite for refining aid and calcined
attapulgite for herbicide carrier.
Ashagel
190 is a ultra fine premium grade of attapulgite. It
is an excellence thixotropic thickening agent for water
borne and solvent based systems such as plastisols,
paint, foundry, coatings, adhesives, sealants.Ashagel
190 offers rapid dispersion and effective thixotropic
thickening in paints and coatings. In adhesives, sealants
ASHAGEL provide sag resistance, viscosity control and
spreaadability.
