As a natural progression from calcined bauxite, Ashapura is in the process of setting up a 1 million ton alumina refinery in Kutch. The project is expected to be completed in two phases at a total cost of approximately Rs.2500 crores. The current global demand for alumina is outpacing supply causing a surge in alumina prices. The shortage is particularly acute in China. In this scenario, the Ashapura project scheduled to be implemented with a Chinese partner is expected to take the company to great heights and is just the beginning in a series of value addition.

The partnership is mutually beneficial as Ashapura has extensive reserves and knowledge about bauxite while the Chinese partner has excellent experience and expertise in alumina.
